The AlcoMoto Slough Jets are saddened to announce that this weekend will be captain Conor Redmond’s last home game for the Jets.
Conor first joined the Jets in 2013 as part of the NIHL2 squad, where he stayed for two years before heading off for spells at Invicta, Bracknell Hornets, Oxford, and back to Invicta before signing with the Jets again in 2021.
The following year Redmond was named captain by his peers, and head coach Lukas Smital was quick to praise his leadership and character…
“Conor is everything that a hockey team needs from a captain.
Not only is he an outstanding leader for our team, he is well respected across the league and Conor has played a huge role in the success that we have seen here in Slough in recent years.
I am sure I speak for everyone when I wish Conor a very happy retirement from the Jets.”
As Captain of the Jets, Conor has led the team to back to back league titles, playoff and national championships and challenge cup winners in the past two seasons, and with more silverware up for grabs, there may be more to add before the season is finished!
Thank you Conor, from everyone at the Slough Jets.
A message from Conor…
“It’s been a really difficult decision to leave the Jets and take a step back from hockey. Combining the commitment to play in this league with work & life hasn’t been an easy task. My wife Meg and I are delighted to be expecting our first baby later this year and want to make more space for our new family.
I’d like to say the biggest thank you to the club, the off-ice staff, the volunteers and the fans for being such an important part of our life for the last five years in particular. To see how far we’ve come as a club is a testament to everyone involved. The support both home and away has carried us through some difficult times but also kept us motivated and grounded during the good times. I’m so glad we got to celebrate together in recent years.
To the boys that I’ve had the privilege of playing with: you honestly feel like extended family to me and I’m going to miss being on the ice with you all each week. Thanks for putting up with my madness, and for showing me the utmost respect when wearing the C. It never went unnoticed. I hope that one day we’ll find ourselves sharing the same ice once again in one way or another.
To Smits and Rendog, thank you for giving me the opportunity to be a part of this amazing club, for believing in me and continuing to help me develop. When I signed during covid I could only have dreamed about how the past few years have played out. Thank you for giving me the privilege of being captain and leading the boys the best I could every week.
To my family, Mum, Dad, Brother Anthony & wife Meg. They have been there by my side through all the ups and downs, supporting me and giving me a platform to be able play and enjoy this amazing game. For that I will be forever grateful.
For now, nothing changes. We still have goals that we want to achieve this year and I am going to continue to do my best to help achieve those goals.
Thanks for everything.”
